*Did you know that many Costa Ricans work  just to get by? Their salaries per week are comparable with that of a restaurant worker salary in the U.S. and when they get to meet a tourist, they charge their prices in American dollars at the price of Bahamas prices. This is because Costa Rica is the most visited country in Central America with a $1.9 billion/year tourism industry. More than 50% of the tourists who visit Costa Rica are from the U.S.
*Costa Rica is one of very few with real ecotourism and is one of the most biologically diverse nations in the world! 
*Did you know that in Costa Rica, when an investor, student, or missionary tourist decides to live and share their life style with the Costa Rican people (& get to know them better), they earn the respect in between the local citizens.






*Costa Rica is a Spanish-speaking people and they are very interested in learning English as a second language, in fact, they think it is urgent! If you don't speak Spanish when you already have been living abroad in Costa Rica for awhile, and they notice it, they will ask you why are you not yet speaking their language. And if you speak English, they will always be asking you to teach them your native tongue, especially to their children.
*Did you know that in Costa Rica everything is put off to do tomorrow and that "particular day never arrives"! So, don't bother expecting answers of why someone never showed up to your home, etc. because they do not know why...it is just a tradition.
*So far people pass the majority of their time making lines for almost every transition they must do, it is not worthy to push, because it is their style of life and that is the way it is. Patience is a key factor in Costa Rica!
*A tradition in Costa Rica is to celebrate a whole Holy Week in March/April (for Easter). Most business are closed and no liquor is sold (by law).
*In Costa Rica a majority of the people have breakfast with coffee, bread, Gallo Pinto, and/or fresh juice.
*A fact that in Costa Rica the Grandparents receive a special treatment because they get to raise their grandchildren at their family's homes until they die.
*A fact for young people in Costa Rica today is that they hold long-term relationships at an early age, and some of the young women conceive at 15-17 years of age.
*There is not government assistance for families (welfare) and they must work, or their parents are responsible to feed them and provide shelter, etc.
*Almost 85% of the Costa Ricans use a cell phone to communicate with friends, mainly using text messages.
*If a person from another country is found in between Costa Ricans, this person is called "Gringo" (man) or "Gringa" (woman), even if the language is not from the U.S. But they say it with care and love, and is not considered mean or rude in Costa Rica.
*It is a fact that a visitor to Costa Rica is honorable to recede in between Costa Ricans and the new person gets the best treatment and respect with consideration.
Did you know that the city halls in Costa Rica are Local Authorities, but without decisions, they rely on the Central Government. In other words, these local governments are only for representation of democracy and their employees get paid just to collect local taxes and maintain the city roads and business directories under taxable control.
*Today in Costa Rica there is not a control in place about prices...products may vary from one business to another in a big way.
*As a businessman or woman you are allowed to open your own business and work, even if you are from another country. But, as a stranger you are not allowed to work for a company as an employee.
*Did you know that more than 90% of the Costa Ricans never hold Euro money in their hands? Even further, they do not even know what it looks like.
*100% of Costa Rica know to deference the English language from other languages, plus they love the Dollar coin and they also track the U.S. president's name and the music available in English.
*The women in Costa Rica have more rights that the men, and if a woman affirms that a man did wrong in any way to her, he gets arrested and he also has a big chance of loosing his pertinences, in many cases his freedom too.
*90% of Costa Ricans want to visit the U.S. and just for the curiosity of visiting. But, only two per cent get that dream to come true.
*Did you know that Costa Rican women love the sound of the Italian language and in many cases they prefer an Italian boyfriend rather than a Costa Rican?
*Costa Rica is a Catholic religious country, and it is the general tradition. However, there are still some citizens that change to other religious tendencies, as they are unsecured of themselves. Many Costa Ricans lack trust from religious leaders in associations or churches other than Catholic around Costa Rica, so many people come back to the main Catholic church.
*Fact is that today that there are not many places where the Costa Ricans can go and enjoy a new movie (there are around 60 movie theaters in this country), so they usually see DVD's movies at home with friends and family.
*Fast food is not a plus here, Costa Rican people usually prefer to cook at home.
*Fact is that most of the fast food franchisers from U.S. are mainly located in San Jose, Alajuela, Jaco Beach, and Liberia in Guanacaste for the tourists.
*Did you know that less than 5% of Costa Ricans have their own personal computer with internet, and the other 95% go to local internet cafe businesses?
*Did you know that 99.9% of the Costa Ricans graduate from high school and Costa Rica is the most educated country in Central America?
*Did you know that half of the Costa Rican's are in credit card debt?

 
*Did you know that a majority of Costa Ricans still use 110 voltage in their homes, not 220, and they usually use semi-automatic washers or wash their clothes by hand?
*Did you know that 0.1% of Costa Ricans have ever seen snow (except on television) or have never felt a cold temperature below 30 degrees F?
*Did you know that 40% of Costa Rican have never been to their Province of Limon, and 75% of Costa Ricans have never traveled around their own country? When asked why, they answered because of lack of money or resources, or because they are too busy.
*Costa Rican cities with the most important history are:
Esparza because Captain Morgan ( Sir Henry Morgan)  the famous Pirate stole their Golden Bells in the 1600's, Cartago because it was the Costa Rican's first National capital, Barrio El Carmen-Puntarenas because it holds the Fray Casiano de Madrid (Saint Priest) history as Costa Rica's Miracle children needing a home, food and education, Guanacaste because it is the most growing business state, and Jaco beach because it's the fastest growing tourism town in Costa Rica.
*Did you know that most Costa Ricans do not use doorbells or knock usually, but instead they call out "Oooooooo-Paaaaaay" which means "Hello, Is Anybody Home?" or if they know you personally, they will call out your name or whistle (or both). A lot of people who are yelling out "Oooo-Paaay" are salespeople or people needing food or money for their families.
*The famous Spanish word 'Mae' use to mean "dumb or stupid" in translation and was pronounced 'Mau-hay', but nowadays in Costa Rica, it means "Hey Buddy or Hi, My Friend" and is pronounced 'My'. Anyone in Costa Rica will probably hear this word several times a day.

*Costa Rica is the very first Central American nation to ever plant bananas.
*Did you know that Costa Rica contains 5% of the earth's oxygen?
*According to 'The Society of Incentive and Travel Executives', Costa Rica is the number one
destination for 'incentive travel'.
*Costa Rica has been recognized and awarded before as the "Best Latin America Tourist Destination, Best Destination for Honeymoons (Culture), Best Destination for Tourism from the U.S., Best Destination in the World for Adventure Tourism, and Best Destination for Ecotourism, and World's Top Tourist Destination.

*The Jade Museum (Museo del Jade) in San Jose, Costa Rica is home to the largest collection of American jade in the world.
*Did you know that the crater of Costa Rica's Poas volcano is one of the largest in the world?  Costa Rica has over 200 identifiable volcanic formations. The 5 most popular volcanoes in Costa Rica are the Irazú Volcano (Costa Rica's largest and on a clear day you can see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans from the Irazú!), the Poás Volcano, the Arenal Volcano (the most active in the world), the Rincón de la Vieja, and the Turrialba Volcano.
