We asked this young 23-year-old tourist, Michael, if he likes Costa Rica? He answered, "Of Course, Sure!" Then we asked what was he doing in the town of Puntarenas? and he answered... "I'm a Student of Spanish and I have only been to Costa Rica for 5 days. I'm living with some friends, and with the matter of eating, I eat sometimes at the local market and their seafood. is very good."

Michael told us he has a 20-year-old Sister who studies and also an older brother. He said he also has traveled in Europe and South America. He liked Brazil very much because of the people, and  maybe the girls.     Micheal said, "I'm from United States of America, just to be exact, from Maine in the New England States. And now it's very frozen over there. Maybe my father will meet with me in Costa Rica, because I will stay about 5 more months."

Para todos los que hemos al menos pasado una noche en Puntarenas ya sea descansando por todo un año de trabajo en la Capital o en algún otro lugar de Costa Rica o el mundo, nunca nos habíamos preguntado que hace Puntarenas sin el turismo de temporada de verano. A Puntarenas solo le quedan los pescadores y algún otro negocio basado en las visitas del pequeño turismo de invierno. Pero en la Puntarenas del pasado es en el punto que nosotros queremos dejar muy claro., no era como hoy, claro que no.. . la miramos como mas atractiva, pues las piscinas de la punta estuvieron en mejor estado y los carnavales tuvieron mas sabor... el certamen de señorita de verano tubo mas visitantes y si seguimos hablando encontramos muchísimas cosas de las que hoy ya no están. Pero de donde vino ese nombre tan directo...humm... no parece de España, mas bien se asemeja a la unión de dos palabras del español de Costa Rica y es eso lo que nos atrae mas aun. "Punta" en el punto mas bajo de nuestra patria y "Arenas" por las playas de arena negra y que se extienden por toda la península  del  lado del mar. Los Porteños son hombres y mujeres que como todos los otros Costarricenses viven día a día la incertidumbre de cual será el futuro de Puntarenas y será por eso que esperan mientras siguen disfrutando de la variadas oportunidades que aquí se encuentran. Pero quien no adquirió un beso de su amada en Puntarenas, cunado miraba el atardecer y es que eso es lo que es, un maravilloso lugar para amar y enamorarse, para mirar los increíbles atardeceres románticos. Tiene el alma de Costa Rica y por seguro un puesto con privilegio en nuestras paginas también. A quien de verdad le interesa averiguar cuantos hombres famosos vivieron, murieron o quien la fundo?.Las canciones lindas que se le hicieron o si un ex presidente fue fusilado también., lo importante es que Puntarenas es famosa por su gente y los bellos paisajes, lugar de para amar y ser amado. Por eso visítela sanamente y enamórese.

For all of us that have spent at least one night in Puntarenas, whether on vacation or for a business trip, after a whole year of work in San José (the country's Capital, two hours east of Puntarenas), or on vacation from anywhere in the entire world for that matter...we may ask ourselves "How do the people from Puntarenas do their everyday living in the rainy season?" Well, the main source of income for the town of Puntarenas are the fishermen (one of Costa Rica’s most important fishing ports) and the tourism business. This is why it has the nickname 'The City Always In Season'. I, like many people, still remember yesterday's Puntarenas and the attractive olympic-sized swimming pool at the end of Barrio El Carmen in Puntarenas that shut down in the 1990's. I believe that this now abandoned attraction will eventually be opened up again one day, possibly when the San Lucas Island is restored and reopened for tourism purposes. San Lucas was a prison opened 125 years ago and closed it's doors in the 1960's. It is very comparible to the Alcatraz Island. This popular port town is known for it's many annual cultural festivals, local beauty contests, concerts, dances, bullsfights, parades and much more to always keep attracting tourists and local people alike. The Puntarenas Festival every February is probably the second largest fair in Costa Rica, with the Zapote Festival being the largest in San Jose every December. Where did Puntarenas get it's name from? It's the joining of two Costa Rican's spanish words, "Punta" means "End" and "Arenas" means "Sands", so that means "End Sands", or a small peninsula. These sands are spread across the whole peninsula. The "Porteños" are Costa Ricans like any others men and women, that live the ongoing days of not knowing what will be with Puntarenas' future While they enjoy the variety of opportunities that this place offers. Who did not get their first kiss in Puntarenas while they where looking at the amazing sunsets and landscapes?. Puntarenas is a gorgeous place to love and be loved..in other words, "Falling in Love". Possibly, Puntarenas could also be nicknamed 'The Home of Cupid'? The town of Puntarenas surely has a large part of Costa Rica's soul, and of course is a very special place in our webpages, too!
