Much
has been said about the towns of the Americas, including in the country
of Costa Rica, and it's relationship with Spain. But, the city of
Esparza...who knows if someone has done this with certainty. The town of Esparza was founded in 1554 and is one of the country's earliest Spanish settlements. It has the small town of "Chumical", Chumical until today has remained unknown or asleep. In the past many great world personalities met in this place, including some from the world of pirates, Pathfinder business European Dealers and Religious men. Esparza was the most visited of all of Central America Cities, Puntarenians state invited Them to stay in this land and felt like home in here. Chumical is located on the south of Esparza, it hopes that all Costa Ricans and the modern world discover it's history and it's treasures. The Esparzan's Golden Bells. City of colonial and big events, it's one of the oldest in the Pacific, Visited by Pirates and Business men, who came from Europe and Asia, that visited the Guatemala's Kingdom too in those times. It takes a bit to talk about this fantastic story of the Esparza's golden bells... The oldest people of Esparza were saying like this... The Pirate Morgan "Sir Henry Morgan of the English Crown in the years 1600 to 1700 AD. Succeeded in perpetrating and they, the Spanish domination's territorial, and one was this beautiful city. It was night, when in Esparza two, of several tons golden bells gold 24 carats., were taken down by Morgan and his men, while they already has put the citizens at sleep overnight and taken those bell away, also has been said, that they could have thrown them down ito the hole below the kiosk where there is a deep well, some believed that this well was made to supply the city with water in those times. also some said that maybe they took the bells thru the town of Chumical and then to Salinas and caldera, where was a Dock for shipping goods and gold in those years, looking for an open sea and totally escape with the cargo, Just to be sure, but not one hundred per cent, The story says the Morgan, Sir William, was leaving Europe, with destiny to the Americas one more time to strike it. he had several men with him also from England, and he decided not to let other colleagues to know where he was going, they thought he was going to Jamaica again, perhaps because Morgan did not trust them (French and English) and he decided to dress his pirate ship as a castle, with many men sailing towards America, but at the same time letting his friends that this pirate directed towards Jamaica as agreed and was. but in this fantastic journey torturer The Spaniards' cities in America, he decided to strike Esparza, Yes listen well, the pirate wanted the biggest America's treasure and happened that someone had notice and alerted the Esparzans in the matter that Morgan and his men were directed toward their city. The City also who decided to confront Bad men, and then for almost seven days and seven nights of Esparzans had a lack of sleep, nor they rested, but Morgan and his men were so smart that waited to be Esparzans went to break and sleep, when they were attacked in silence. The next day when the altar boy ( assistant to the priest) was trying to play the bells to the first time hour and let people about the new day found that there was no any golden bells, what is was worse, not one had seen the pirate Morgan arrive, then all mad and angry Esparzans, decided to go in search and recover the known stolen as " The People treasure." they were men and women, horses, dogs, mules and is believed to cats brought from Spain too, and they looked the more remote corners of Chumical, Humo, Juanilama, and Salinas but they did not not see any pirate much less their bells of gold. That sadness covered the Esparza's, and now it's not longer has the beautiful golden bell's sound, when the altar boy struck the bells at the time of call or simply giving people an hour., but the city of Esparza has maintained and even waiting until today to find, even in dreams, perhaps to progress economically or simply that Costa Rica or the world tourist visitors to visit it. History of the Mules: Another big story that includes to those oldest men was, an old man who at the time of Mule' s roads it happen in a day this man after having worked very hard as mining with aborigines of the area and Spaniards, having collected much gold and he had hidden, just waiting for the special moment timing, as he decided in the night from Miramar's mines, until the Riviera's infiernillo in Esparza, tire took a break in the small creek and precisely his gold loaded mule died, and perhaps by the weight along the way. Then the man bury the load and with more time seek another mule for the search back, the gold pickup. But the man never returned and happened that a Esparza's man, who was very drunk all the times, always he was saying, he was having many nightmares, and that in those nightmares, the old man of the mule asked him that pulled the treasure from that place. The Esparzan without further waiting went and bought a Costa Rica's liquor bottle, because only like drunk, he was strong and have courage as a real man and went at the midnight to wait for, but it rained and there were night lights also, the lights natural gas mistook him, so this is an adventurer, saw someone coming over and he thought it was the mule's man and gave a huge to a white young ox ( Cow Mail or Novillo ), passing by there in the dark, when the man believed it was the dead old man and inmediately, the Espartan adventurer , passed out, fainting immediately and the other day when the Espartan waked up, shouted that where is my liquor, and that the gold is no longer a matter anymore. |

The Priest
Without Head: It happen in a place called Smoke at the south of Esparza neighbor to Chumical and Juanilama that there were a couple of Catholic priests living in the Priest's House site, when for reasons completely unknown, one priest cut the head to the other priest, and then the people questioned the two about saying that they were maybe gay. But the killer did it because of the already collected gold in their home. and happen that not one always knew the truth ever. And for many years after, the well-known Internationally writer, citizen of Juanilama, Mercedez Venegas. She decided in those days to create in Juanilama of Esparza, the image of Our Juanilama's Lady or Virgin of Los Angels, well she had told the story to the youth in those years, about that particular legend of the priest without head at that in some nights came out to frighten the neighbors of Smoke and visitors too as a gust running around without the head. Europe took virtually all the treasures of our America and some of these treasures are in the sea, for reasons of shipwrecks. It is not recommended to find hidden treasures in Costa Rica, because they are protected by the government laws. If anyone wants to know about some of these treasures, they can visit the National Museums, properly. The oldest families do not talk about these stories and so prefer to talk about livestock and agriculture. Esparza did hold some of the hardest struggles with the most difficult of Costa Rica from the past and that if that even in 2007 are preserved many of these structures which are protected with a lot of love. Some Pathfinders left their footprints in this city and also did the Aborigines as Garabito. Esparza was founded by the Conqueror Archeva Diego in 1574 and Chirinos, a real Aborigines and Negros exterminator. Esparza and Cartago were used as a Trade Centre in Costa Rica in those times. It covered up Guanacaste and Orotina. Two town meetings or Municipalities, Europe and the Aboriginal government . The families of Cartago came from Europe too, it was dominated by traders. Their houses were build with grass and clay. Mule's road still remains today and communicated to San Jose until today, it has been used to transport all trade goods. With a 1850 decree by Juan Rafael Mora who determines the Jurisdictions territory.
